A spark of love--Volkner x reader (part 2: Final)

After a long boat ride and a day's journey walking, (Name) and Volkner had arrived at the tag team tournament location. (Name), being the Unova league champion, had to go to take care of the opening day. She waved goodbye and ran off to help with the preparations for the tournament. By the end of the day, the tournament was all set; the judges had been chosen, the different regions champions and their eighth gym leaders were set and ready to go. The morning of the tournament, the rules were to be read by (Name) and the games could begin.

To say (Name) was nervous that morning was an understatement. She shook her head, (h/c) hair falling into her eyes as she blew it back before putting her hair up in a ponytail. The small black Pokémon by her feet, Umbreon, barked happily. Her Pokémon were excited, especially her strongest ones. They were looking forward to the new challenge of fighting an old friend as well as her two rivals from Kanto: Red and Green.  The other trainers that were there were: Gold and Clair from Johto, Steven and Wallace from Hoenn, Cynthia and Volkner from Sinnoh and herself and Marlon from Unova.

The tournament was soon to begin, (Name) making the announcement and introducing each of the trainers from the different regions, each situated in a different corner. Once she finished the judges came out, sitting in the seats assigned to them beforehand. (Name) went back to her corner next to Marlon, who gave her a pat on the shoulder.

"Ya did well on that speech! Good luck today!" he smiled as he got ready for his first match.

"The first match," The judges called, "Will be Kanto's own Green against Hoenn's Wallace on Battlefield One!" the judge announced. "Match two, on battlefield two, will be Kanto's champion, Red vs. Sinnoh's champion, Cynthia! Please make your way to the stadiums!" the referees for both went to their respective fields, preparing for some heated battles.

The individual matches started. Gold vs. Steven was third, (Name) vs. Clair was fourth and Marlon vs. Volkner was last. The matches went by quickly for the most part. With the help of Hydredgion and Dragonair, (Name) beat Clair pretty easily, considering dragons were their own weakness. Gold beat Steven, with a bit of challenge, of course Green and Red both won, and Marlon lost to Volkner with their last Pokémon.
When the final matches were shown on the board, (Name) was surprised to find out that she would be battling it out with Green and that Red and Gold would be going head to head to fight in the final three battles, the number of tournament entries was odd and they had no other option.  

With a sigh, the (h/c) haired girl walked to the field. She was surprised to find, however, that it would be a tag team battle, her and Gold against Red and Green, something she had thought would not happen.  The four began their battle and ended after Gold and Green were both eliminated. Luckily for (Name) who was down to her last Pokémon in that match. She sighed deeply as she walked off the field to heal her Pokémon that had fainted, bumping into Volkner on the way there.

"Nice work out there." He complimented with a smile as he and Luxray walked beside her.

"Thanks. It was a bit of a challenge but we pulled through." She smiled softly as Umbreon nuzzled her cheek affectionately. The girl patted the black Pokémon's head as she turned to him. "I hope you're ready to face Red and I." she winked as the couple walked into the Pokémon center.

Volkner chuckled. "Of course; just don't expect me to go easy on you or anything." He said as he leaned against the counter. He received a nudge from Luxray, encouraging him to ask her what was on his mind. He scratched his head as he stood straight. "Name..." he said quietly, blushing a bit when the girl looked towards her.

"What's up Volky?" she asked playfully as Volkner's blush worsened.

"I was wondering if you'd go out with me?" he asked quietly. He turned to look at her and smiled at the sight. She had a light blush dusting across her nose and her eyes were wide in a mix of shock and happiness.

"I-I'd love to!" she exclaimed as she hugged him tightly, the blonde male patting her back with a soft chuckle as Nurse Joy came back with her Pokémon. (Name) took them back with a small thank you as she and Volkner left, heading towards a nearby café to catch up and go on their first date.

The rest of the tournament flew by in a matter of a few hours. Red won the championship but he ended up staying for the after party, which surprised everyone considering the male's lack of speech. Most of the guys ended up trying to either get Red to talk, or figure out a way to get Wallace from freaking out about other people's attire. The hotel was filled with chatter about the tournament. (Name) and Volkner had managed to slip out unnoticed and were walking through the town beneath the moonlit starry sky.

"They're pretty." (Name) said as they walked hand in hand down the road. The girl was looking up at the sky, oblivious to the soft smile Volkner gave her before responding.

"Not nearly as pretty as you." He stated as he pulled her closer by wrapping his arm around her. The (h/c) haired female blushed and smiled up at him.

"Thank you." she replied as they stopped and sat down. It came as a shock when Volkner leaned down and captured her lips in a soft, chaste kiss.

"I meant to tell you sooner...I love you (Name)." Volkner said quietly as he rested his forehead against hers. The girl blinked before wrapping her arms around him and giving him another kiss.

"I love you too..." she whispered in return. The two shared one last, electrifying kiss before they stood and walked home, ignoring the whistles Gold and Green gave them as they walked by.

They had made an agreement that night to visit each other whenever they weren't busy and chat over the phone every chance they got. Volkner eventually left the gym in Sinnoh and moved to Unova to stay with (Name). Surprisingly, he had managed to help Elesa complete the renovations to her gym with some help from his best electric companion and now assisted her in battling opponents. Whenever she was away at a modeling job, he would take care of the gym. (Name) was happy he was here and it made her smile that he was still doing something he loved. When she finally lost her title as Champion, the two moved to Undella Town and started a family. It really was like a fairy tale ending, the couple's own 'Happily Ever After.'
